The lead story in today's sports pages is the victory of the Tigres del Licey over the Aguilas Cibaenas, 5-1, which vaulted the Tigres into second place and relegated the once high-flying Aguilas into a tie for third place with the Gigantes del Cibao. The Aguilas, who during the regular season dominated the batting statistics with four of the five leading batters, only managed five hits against the very solid Licey pitching staff that was led by right-handed Jake Stevens. Stevens, who allowed just three hits in five innings, was followed by Francisco Rosario, Oneli Perez, Victor Marte and David Pfeiffer.

In last night's other game, the Gigantes del Cibao took a tight 4-3 victory from the tournament leaders Leones del Escogido and are now tied with the Aguilas Cibaenas in third place in the standings. The effort by the Gigantes was greatly assisted by a homerun from Diory Hernandez in the fourth inning to give the team from San Francisco de Macoris their winning edge. The Gigantes used a total of nine pitchers in their winning effort, with Jerry Gil getting the win and Juan Perez the save.
