They hit the beach HARD yesterday. Two pickup trucks, a couple motorcycles and a half dozen police on foot. They were going inside the shops, checking everywhere...even taking cell phones of suspected Haitians to see their numbers dialed/contact list then would proclaim, "HAITIAN" and load them into one of the trucks.

Big round-ups of illegal immigrants (Haitians) going on from Sosua to Sabaneta starting yesterday and continuing today. Truckloads are being shipped out.
Presumably this is nationwide as the new immigration laws came into effect this week.
I have been told that if they pay the officers RD$1,500 - RD$2,000 they are let off the truck.
Could be an expensive week for Sidney and Robert.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Damn I wish this site had spell check.
My laptop has spell check for my posts here. Not sure if it's an option that has to be enabled or not.
Despite spelling and/or grammar I understood the intention of the poster (as I assume did most members) and appreciate the information he passed on to the rest of us. A BIG THANK YOU FROM FESTY!!!

I heard from a reliable source that a gringo was robbed and stabbed walking back from Cabarete center on the beach to or towards Tangerine late at night (I think it was Saturday night). I was told that first a woman approached him from the area of the defunct, torn down hotel, and then three guys ran out and robbed and stabbed the guy. Supposedly he's in the hospital in Puerto Plata recovering.

More likely the raids are related to the killing of a police sergeant in Sosua a couple of days ago while chasing robbers:
