Speaking on the campaign trail, former President Hipolito Mejia promised to comply with the Education Law that stipulates that 4% of the country's GDP should be assigned to the national education budget. Interviewed on the Uno+Uno TV talk show on TeleAntillas, Mejia also pledged to back the farming sector and maintain macroeconomic stability. He said his other priorities were job creation, construction, environmental conservation and support for traditional cash crops like sugar and coffee. He said that the Dominican farm sector was going through difficult times, and mentioned the case of rice growers. He said the present government has decapitalized the rice growers by paying a debt of more than RD$1 billion with bonds that expire in 2016. He also mentioned he would fulfill the law on the appointment of diplomats abroad. He said the country has more diplomats abroad than China, as reported in El Nacional.

During the interview, Mejia said that he has not received a cent from his party for the presidential campaign. He commented that the PRD had received RD$157 million for the campaign from the government and that this year, the PRD will receive RD$373 million after registering its presidential and vice presidential candidates, for which there is a 60- day timeframe before the 20 May election deadline. He said that history would judge the actions of the president of the party, Miguel Vargas, and that he has been waiting for him to join the campaign for the past 10 months. Vargas was Mejia's rival for the presidential nomination.

During the show, Mejia received the "Personality of the Year" award. The program is produced by Juan Bolivar Diaz and Adalberto Grullon.
