Lawyer Remberto Pichardo Juan, who escaped possible murder on Monday night, has told his story to the press. From his hospital bed, he described how he was injured in both legs when he arrived at his home in Calle Primera, Edificio Esperanza, Brisas del Mar in El Cacique neighborhood. He said he was met by a man who held a pistol to his wife. His reaction was to pull his wife aside and try to disarm the man, who fired several shots and injured him. Pichardo suspects the motive was not just robbery, but to try to murder him in connection with several court cases he is working on. He was able to disarm the assailant, but says there was another person monitoring the area. He said that the man traveled in two cars.
"I think this aggression is because of the cases I am carrying against the government for corruption," he told the press in several interviews. He said that he has submitted a recourse against President Leonel Fernandez to remove Hotoniel Bonilla of the Department of Administrative Corruption (DPCA) because he has 22 audits that show irregularities in administrative management and does not publish them, he told Diario Libre.
