Hotel employees who were fired during the low tourist season are now being reemployed due to an increase in the number of tourists, according to the spokesman for the Association of Hotels, Condominiums and Commercial establishments in Playa Dorada, Julio Almonte.

According to the Central Bank, Puerto Plata, Cofresi, Maimon, Sosua and Cabarete only had an occupation level of 53% during the low season. The fact that Puerto Plata was the Dominican tourist center with the lowest level of hotel occupation during that period was very critical for the hotels, forcing them to fire thousands of employees.

Julio Almonte said that the hotels would concentrate on attracting more tourists in the high season.
