The commander of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD), Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo, said yesterday in a report carried in El Nuevo Diario, that a large proportion of the narcotics that come into the Dominican Republic is then sent on to Europe, especially Belgium, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany. Rosado Mateo says that the controls and the judicial situation in the United States, where conspiracy to distribute is a major felony, have forced the cartels to shift their trade to Europe, and he said that the recent seizures of drugs that were to be sent to different European destinations proves this. Rosado Mateo was speaking to the press after the DNCD received a contribution of electronic detection equipment from Germany.
