Yesterday, businessman Fulgencio Marcelo Abreu Villavizar denied that he had received a bribe from a British company, Biwater International, saying that on the contrary, Biwater owed him 9.3 million dollars for a legal contract signed some years ago, when Biwater agreed to pay him a "consultation fee" for four different contracts. Abreu was speaking before being interrogated for more than three hours by the National Board for Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (DPCA), accompanied by his lawyer, Ramon Hernandez in connection with alleged extortion and bribery against Biwater.
The DPCA said that over the next few weeks they would be interrogating other people who had emerged during the course of their investigations, who would be able to help to establish the facts.
