Two people were killed and at least 17 injured yesterday on the 6th November Highway between Santo Domingo and San Cristobal, when a truck laden with concrete hit a bus full of passengers returning from Bani.
The victims were identified as Santo Rodolfo Diaz Castillo, aged 43, and a Canadian woman, Kristel Slawinski, aged 35.
The injured included Joine Perez, 19, whose legs had to be amputated at the Dario Contreras hospital last night. The rest of the injured were taken to the Dario Contreras and Marcelino Velez Santana hospitals. It was also thought that two passengers were in Ney Arias Lora trauma hospital but that could not be confirmed.
The bus driver stated that he had stopped to let off a passenger when the truck hit his bus was hit from behind.
