Former President Hipolito Mejia would win the presidential election in the Dominican Republic if it had been held from 6-13 January, according to the latest poll by CID-Gallup Latinoamericana. The polling company says that Mejia could defeat PLD ruling party candidate, Danilo Medina 55%-37% in the 20 May 2012 election. Hipolito Mejia is running with businessman Luis Abinader. Medina is running with First Lady Margarita Cedeno as Vice Presidential candidate. 1,206 people were polled.

As reported in Diario Libre, the poll shows that First Lady Margarita Cedeno has the highest popularity ranking with 67%, followed by Mejia with 56% and Medina with 52%.
