According to a press release from the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), three of the main stations on line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro, Centro de los Heroes, Amin Abel Hasbun and Hermanas Mirabal, will have free internet broadband WiFi access. Fixed express terminals with faster speeds will be available for public use.

Centro de los Heroes was chosen as it is the largest station on Line 1 and has the biggest number of users. It also has a 120-meter long platform and all the facilities of a modern subterranean station.

Amin Abel Hasbun, located in the university area, is one of the stations most used by students with a 130-meter long platform and Hermanas Mirabal is the largest of the over ground stations with a 90-meter long platform.

Taveras said two to four fixed express terminals with touch screens would be installed at the three stations. These would be housed in a specially designed area. The plan is to make Internet access available free of charge to passengers who do not have laptops. He said that the Transport Reorganization Office (Opret) would install the equipment and cover the maintenance costs.
