The police has arrested Maria Yokasta Velez de Alli (Marioli), 36, accused of making hoax bomb threat calls to the US Embassy on 1 December. She lives in Madre Vieja in Nagua, and was arrested together with her husband who was questioned and released.
According to the Police, Velez initially claimed that her cell phone chip had been lost, but she then admitted to making 13 calls between 10:20am and 12:08pm. The investigators concluded that she made the calls to cover up for fraud. She is alleged to have taken money from a client to obtain a US visa for him. She wanted her victim to believe that she could not obtain the visa that day because of the bomb threat situation at the Embassy. She was sent to Najayo for three months preventive custody.
