Former PRD senator Tonty Rutinel agreed to sign the papers for the posting of bail bond. Listin Diario reports that he left Najayo Jail on Friday morning, ending an ordeal lasting several weeks. Rutinel was arrested on 5 December for aggression against the mother of two of his children. He always maintained he was incarcerated for political reasons and kept in jail by lawyers who sought a RD$2 million payoff. He spent thousands of pesos on newspaper advertisements maintaining his innocence.

"Negotiate with lawyers who seek bribes, reach agreements with prosecutors to build and maintain a lie and be an accomplice to invented tales with the only objective of receiving a RD$2 million bribe for them and their lawyers to revoke the charges, which I refused to do, preferring to remain in prison for dignity," he said in a paid advertisement.

He was initially held at the Palacio de la Justicia jail before being sent to Najayo after he refused to sign the bond papers. The case will next be heard in court. Yesterday, the National District prosecutor presented a formal accusation against Rutinel. The accusation was presented to judge Ileana Perez Garcia by assistant prosecutor Rosanna Campusano of the Gender Violence Department.
