The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has announced that 6,504,943 Dominicans are eligible to vote in the Sunday, according to the preliminary voting list for the 20 May 2012 presidential election. This is 388,546 more voters compared to those eligible to vote in the congressional and municipal election of 16 May 2010. This year 14,700 voting stations will operate across the Dominican Republic and several overseas locations.

JCE president Roberto Rosario says that the final list will be available on 5 February.

He said that contrary to popular perception, most of the voters are over the age of 40, according to the list. About 50% are under 40, while more than 30% are over the age of 50.

The JCE also announced that 27 political parties are authorized to participate in the 20 May 2012 elections. The political parties now have 45 days to post any alliances.
