The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reports that there were no fatal accidents over the La Altagracia weekend. Thousands of pilgrims traveled east to honor Our Lady of Altagracia at the Higuey Basilica. Nevertheless, the COE reports eight people were injured in traffic accidents. The COE says it assisted 318 people, 32 of whom were hospitalized. The accidents reported occurred on the Autovia del Este and on the La Romana-Higuey highway stretch. AMET reports having detained 107 trucks for driving in the left lane. The COE mobilized 4,000 volunteers to patrol highways and activity centers in and on the way to Higuey. La Altagracia Day was celebrated on Saturday, 21 January.
