The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has detected a package of marijuana that had been vacuum-packed for sending to New York via a courier company. The drugs were mailed to Eddy Garcia in Queens and the sender was identified as Arsenio Espinal Lara.
DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said that the sender had been located and would be arrested. The seizure was made in the presence of deputy prosecutor Verni Troncoso, of the province of Santo Domingo.
In the first 20 days of this year, the DNCD has stopped at least 10 attempts to ship drugs overseas through the postal system, according to the drug control agency. The DNCD attributes this to new controls installed by the agency, and especially to those at the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM).
