South Africa's currency gained as much as 0.5 percent to 7.8965 per dollar, its best intraday level since Nov. 14, and traded 0.3 percent stronger at 7.9153 as of 8:55 am in Johannesburg. It rose 0.2 percent against the euro to 10.3144.
