President Leonel Fernandez has signed the National Development Strategy bill, converting it into law. Known as the Ley Organica Estrategia Nacional de Desarrollo de la Republica Dominicana 2010-2030 (END), the law sets out the guidelines for the nation's development, as reported in El Caribe.
Its main promoter in government, Economy Minister Juan Temistocles Montas said that the law would support the strengthening of a culture of planning and assignation of priorities to public policies. He said this would improve the quality of government actions and a more efficient use of public resources.
He said that the plan was based on four development priorities, 19 general objectives, 57 specific objectives and 461 action lines.
He stressed the law had been widely shared, mentioning that it was discussed in 58 meetings nationwide, working with the Centro de Estudios Sociales Padre Juan Montalvo. He said that the National Business Council (CONEP) had coordinated the business meetings.
PUCMM rector Monsignor Agripino Nunez said that the law seeks to achieve collective good. He said that its application would help the country progress towards a more inclusive and participative democracy.
