The archbishop of Santiago, Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio, said that the country needs Dominicans who are not corrupt, like founding father Juan Pablo Duarte, and asked that once again the commemorative date of his birth should not be moved, a sentiment he said he shared with many Dominicans.

He hoped to see this happen in 2013 so that the 200th anniversary of Duarte's birth could be celebrated on the actual date of 26 January.

During a thanksgiving service to commemorate the birth of the nation's main founding father, he said that there is corruption and violence amongst Dominicans nowadays because they have lost the flavor of being Dominican and their faith in a better country.

He stressed that the country needed good Dominicans and asked them to believe more in the country in order to be able to face the problems in a united fashion.

On another subject he said it was time to resolve the conflict at the Central Electoral Board (JCE), warning that it could not continue to be a problem with only a few months to go to the elections. He said that he hoped that the impasse would be resolved with the mediation of PUCMM Rector Agripino Nunez Collado.
