President Leonel Fernandez has congratulated the Leones del Escogido for winning the local professional baseball championship that came to an end on Monday in the Quisqueya Stadium in the National District.
In a letter sent to team president Luis Manuel Bonetti, he said that "in my name and that of the Dominican people I would like to heartily congratulate you on the triumph of the Leones de Escogido team by winning the baseball tournament in 2011-2012, and for being crowned the champions of Dominican baseball." Bonetti is the administrative secretary of the Presidency, a high-ranking officer in the Fernandez administration.
In his letter, Fernandez said that he was sure that the Leones would represent the country with the same courage during the upcoming Caribbean series, which starts this Thursday in the Dominican Republic. He had special words of congratulations for two outstanding players, Andy Dirks and Pedro Florimon, as well as team manager Ken Oberkfell and general manager Moises Alou. He also praised the losing team, the Aguilas for their performance and hard work during the tournament.
