The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has confiscated more than 213 kilos of cocaine from a truck at the Multimodal Caucedo Port in Boca Chica. The drugs were due to be sent to Spain on the boat Valencia Express.
Truck driver Felix Bejamin Reyes Amador and passenger Diomedes Antonio Diaz Beltre were both arrested.
DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said that the 210 packages of drugs were found in seven green bags weighing more than 213 kilos, together with a list of the containers into which they should be put.
The drugs were decommissioned together with the Specialist Port Security Force (CESEP), the Navy and the Intelligence branch of the Armed Forces (J-2), led by General Manuel Rodriguez Miranda, head of the Joint Information and Coordination Centre (CICC).
The drugs were taken to the National Forensic Science Institute (INACIF) for analysis.
As well as the drugs, the team found a packet of seals, which they presumed would be used to reseal the containers after the drugs had been placed inside.
The DNCD are now seeking information on the real owners of the cocaine, and because it was such a large haul, the investigators suspect that it could be part of a major network using the port at Caucedo to send drugs to Europe, and they are not dismissing the possibility that there could be an accomplice at the port.
