A panel of seismological experts is booked for a comprehensive presentation on the six earthquakes that affected the Dominican Republic in January, ranging from magnitude 3.4 to 5.4. The event is organized by the schools of Architecture and Engineering of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena (UNPHU) in Santo Domingo. Speakers are engineers Juan Alberto Chalas, Romeo Llinas, Eduardo Verdeja, Eduardo Polanco and William Read Espaillat. The event will take place at 6pm at the conference hall of the Library, Building 3, at the John F. Kennedy Km. 7-1/2 campus of the UNPHU. For more information, call 809 562-6601, ext 2309. It is open to the general public, but go early as these events are very popular.

The earthquakes occurred in the southwestern province of Ocoa (5 January, 5.3), Mao in the northwest (18 Jan, 3.4), Saona in the southeast (19 Jan, 4.8), and Rio San Juan (23 Jan, 5.4), Rio San Juan (24 Jan, 4.9), and Nagua (24 Jan, 4.4) in the northeast.
