The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said yesterday that Haiti is still going through a humanitarian crisis after the earthquake two years ago that took hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced 1.5 million people. In a press release, the agency said that the situation is due to the fact that 500,000 are still in camps and other improvised shelters, 7,000 deaths from cholera and the lack of any sort of food security that affects 45% of the population. OCHA said that water quality had decreased after free distribution from water tank trucks was stopped. According to El Nuevo Diario the agency said: "47% of the water tested was contaminated, against 29% detected at the beginning of last December." The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) ordered US$8 million to be spent on reducing the deficiencies in humanitarian work in Haiti.
