The rise of natural gas begins to be felt, although faintly, with 3,488 vehicles including buses and trucks running on natural gas. Meanwhile, 18,000 shared taxis and more than 25,000 private and public buses run on LPG. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has granted 87 licenses to operate natural gas plants and authorized 37 auto shops to install the conversions. However, the owners of the vehicles complain that the equipment costs between RD$65,000 and RD$75,000.

The government program to convert its fleet of vehicles to natural gas has yet to get started, and the arrangements for financing the Bono-Gas Natural program are still ongoing. Four natural gas stations will be inaugurated this month. One is located on Hermanas Mirabal in Villa Mella and will open on 11 February. Another is on the Las Americas highway at kilometer 22, the Parador del Mar, which will be opened on 25 February. On 28 February, a station will be opened on the Duarte Highway in Monsignor Nouel, and another at the intersection of 27 de Febrero and 25th Street in Las Colinas, Santiago.

On 6 January the Isla Station on Charles De Gaulle, next to the Mella Highway was opened. There are also stations in operation on Independencia Avenue at the corner of Heroes de Luperon, in the National District, on Maximo Gomez opposite the cemetery and on John F. Kennedy near the intersection with Nunez de Caceres. There is also a station on Las Americas that belongs to Linea Clave. Two more belong to Linea Clave and Soluciones de Gas Natural, in the compressor plants in Boca Chica. In all, by the end of the month there will be 11 stations where natural gas users can fill up their tanks.

According to Diario Libre, they include 3,450 cars and SUVs, nine buses that belong to OMSA, 24 that belong to Peravia Motors, two trucks from Leche Rica and one from Induveca and Plaza Lama.
