At 3pm today, the Tigres de Aragua will face off with the Indios de Mayaguez at Santo Domingo's venerable Quisqueya Stadium. The Tigres are representing Venezuela in the Caribbean World Series and the Indios represent Puerto Rico. The Tigres are clear favorites with the betting public, coming to town with strong pitching and excellent batting statistics. The Puerto Rican team will include several stars who played in the Dominican Republic Winter League, like Nelson Figueroa who played for the champions Leones del Escogido until this weekend.

After the first game there will be an opening ceremony and then the Dominican Republic's Leones del Escogido will play the Yaques from Obregon (Mexico). The Escogido team has contracted the services of Francisco Pena, Erick Almonte and Jairo Asencio, who together with Cuban left-hander Raul Valdes will reinforce the Leones. The Leones are not sure that the SoftBank Falcons of the Japanese League will allow pitcher Angel Castro to take part in the series.

Today's schedule:

Venezuela (F. Butto) vs. Puerto Rico (N. Figueroa)

Mexico (L. Mendoza) vs. Dominican Republic (A. Castro)
