Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia says that the tourism sector was one of the best economic performers nationally last year, taking into account the world financial crisis.
He said that this notable increase could be seen in the number of tourists who came to the country and the income in dollars, which were higher than in 2010. Garcia confirmed that this had been recognized, not only by the World Tourism Organization but also by prestigious companies like J P Morgan.
He specified that J P Morgan had established that tourism-related income had increased by 3.5 % in 2011 over the previous year, with total income for the sector reaching US$4,360 million.
