Of the 4,606 registered pregnancies in 2011 in the province of San Juan de la Maguana, 1,490, or 32.3%, were reported in young women between the ages of 15 and 19, of whom 78 were just 15 years old.
Doctor Hector Guerrero, Director of the Regional Health Authority said that although this figure is lower than in 2010 when 1,530 pregnancies were reported in teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19 and 89 were only 15, action needed to be taken, involving the Ministry of Public Health and the parents of the pregnant girls.
