On Monday, February 6, Puerto Rico defeated Mexico in a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the ninth inning, ending any possibility for the Mexican team to tie with the Dominicans when Luis Figueroa brought home Johnny Monell with a single in the bottom half of the ninth inning. The victory by Puerto Rico assured the Dominican hosts of the Caribbean Series their fourth win in this winter classic. One curious bit of information was the fact that the Puerto Rican pitcher was none other than Nelson Figueroa, who had been so important to the Escogido team during their run for the Dominican championship. Figueroa went 7 2/3 innings and held the powerful Mexican team in check. He was relieved by Nelvin Fuentes who got the win.

However, the day was not perfect for the Escogido team as they were shut out by the Tigres de Aragua, 7-0, in the late game yesterday evening.
