The Minister of the Interior and Police, Jose Ramon Fadul (Monchy) says that he will take firm action against the owners of drinking establishments and bars that disturb the public peace in residential neighborhoods. Fadul told El Caribe that any establishment that violates the sales hours established by the regulations would be shut down. He noted that every week the ministry officials close between 20 and 30 establishments selling drinks because of violations of the regulations 308-06 and 316-06. In one specific case, that of Drinks 2 Go, Fadul said that they have been sent a notification for failure to comply and if they continue to violate the rules he will close them down.
Fadul said that he was in favor of the decrees becoming laws in order to have more "rigidity" and he said that many of these businesses extend their spaces by taking over public spaces like sidewalks and even the streets in some areas.
