An Indian national and a Dominican are implicated in the recent and on-going case of Internet hacking that affected First Lady Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez's e-mail account as well as many other members of Santo Domingo's economic, political and social elite. A young Dominican woman and an Indian citizen only identified as Rajat appear on the list of people suspected of spying on the First Lady's electronic mail, as well as that of the wife of a prominent banking official and several senior business sector figures through the use of sophisticated and costly apparatus which intercepted telephone and internet use, according to sources close to the investigation.

Listin Diario says that warrants have been issued for the interrogations of several people on the list, including the alleged leader of the gang of hackers, a man who lives on Enriquillo Avenue in the Cacigazgos sector of Santo Domingo. Hacking and other internet-related crimes are covered under the Dominican Constitution, in Article 44. The sources also report that the young man, a known extortionist, has been operating since 2002, and has extorted money from relatives of bankers and politicians.
