Brother Aristides Jimenez Richardson, the spokesman for the Pardons Commission, confirmed yesterday that the commission plenary has not received any request for a pardon from businessman Manuel Arturo Pellerano. He reiterated that the name Pellerano does not appear requesting a pardon in the requests, which have to arrive directly from the secretary general of the Attorney General of the Republic, or in any list that has been handled by the commission, for the pardons that the government will hand out on 27 February.

Jimenez Richardson complained, nonetheless, about the hindrances that he says the General Directorate of Prisons is creating when the commission tries to investigate the cases of the inmates who might be recommended for a pardon. He complained that both Prisons as well as the officials of the New Penitentiary System put forth bureaucratic roadblocks and demand written requests for the case files, which he said stalls the process of sifting through the large number of cases, which now exceeds 400. He warned that both agencies should take on the legal responsibility for their denial to supply the information that is required. Jimenez Richardson also complained about the fact that the Directorate of Prisons had recommended two inmates for pardons, when from the beginning they were warned that no prison official could do this. According to the Brother, the selfsame director of Prisons, Roberto Ovando Prestol, supplied the names of Malvin Joel Soriano Robles and Inguerbeld Frias Martinez, both accused of document forgery and criminal association.
