Dominican naval officials and other search and rescue brigades have brought in the bodies of 23 more victims and one survivor of the boat that sank off Samana last Saturday February 4. According to the official report, the number of people confirmed dead totals 47, the number of survivors is 11, and 17 are still missing. It was initially reported that the boat left with 65 passengers but some witnesses said that later they took on 10 more and increased the number to 75.

The bodies were located in Los Cayos, in Cayo Levantado, Samana, during a rescue operation that has not ceased since last Saturday, headed by Navy Colonel Hector Ramon Mendez, the chief of the Dominican Navy's Eastern Command.

The latest survivor is young Alfonso Rogers who was found in some bushes in the community of La Canita, near the town of Miches. One of the bodies has not been claimed from the morgue, which leads to the speculation that his family did not know that he was going on the trip. The authorities say that 72 hours after is the decisive time for bodies to come to the surface. Last night the recovery operations continued in the area, where dozens of family members are still waiting for news.
