Dominican and Haitian fishermen are experiencing a wave of confiscations at sea of people, boats, engines, fishing pots and other fishing tackle. Dominican sailors believe that it is a form of revenge following the confiscation of Haitian boats and their subsequent burning by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources in Pedernales.
In the last few days, five boats belonging to Haitian fisherman have been confiscated in Dominican waters.
Since last Friday, the Haitian authorities have kept the boat of the Dominican fisherman Fernando Sanchez (Flaco) and members of the Navy believe that Haitian fishermen also have boats belonging to other Dominicans, according to a report in El Nacional.
