The director of the State Sugar Council (CEA), Enrique Martinez, accused the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) yesterday Monday February 13 of passing out "little certificates" of land titles that have no validity. Martinez even went so far as to say that the entity did not even have the authority to give away lands that, he says, are CEA property, through the Agrarian Reform projects, and which, he said have not been coordinated between both state entities, or at least, not with him. The CEA director was responding to questions about the eviction of a group of farmers in the community of Don Juan, Monte Plata, from some lands that had been distributed by the IAD and whose director, Juan Rodriguez defended, saying that he has the property titles.

"It is not true that the IAD has the property title certificates to that land, since those lands were sold and recovered by the CEA in the Congress," said Martinez who, although he does not know if there was some transfer during the last CEA administration, said that so far he has not found any documentation that says that there was. He accused, moreover, the IAD leadership of always going around and distributing lands that do not belong to them, but rather to the CEA, which he said had occurred in Monte Plata as well as in San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana and El Seibo. Nonetheless, Juan Rodriguez insists that he possess the documentation that backs the ownership of the lands, which he will send to the director of the CEA, and which include the title certification and the Presidential decree that orders the transfer, according to Diario Libre.
