According to Listin Diario, the carnival in La Vega generated more than RD$400 million for the participants last year. As one of the most eagerly awaited spectacles of the year, the event in La Vega is a sight to behold. It is, without a doubt, the most fabulous of carnivals during Lent and it is also very well organized. The La Vega Carnival Union (UCAVE) controls some 130 groups that parade through the streets. According to Miguel Dario de Pena, the carnival generates a lot of money, some RD$400 million, much more than any other province. It stimulates the economy in the city of La Vega, as well as textile companies, restaurants, local tourism and transport companies. A very large number of foreigners visit the city to watch the parades. UCAVE makes sure that each and every group is well recognized and attempts to keep monetary considerations to one side while emphasizing the traditional carnival themes of good and evil.

The La Vega Carnival Organizing Committee (Cocave) is composed of city council members, the provincial senator, members of Ucave and members of the commercial enterprises that sponsor the event. Last year Ucave received some RD$14 million for its work of organizing the groups. According to one costume designer a typical costume can cost between RD$15,000 and RD$35,000. He said that many people work all year round just to fashion their suits. According to one participant: "...the magic you feel when you put on the suit is incomparable!"
