According to a poll carried out by Spanish market research company Insight S.A., if the elections were held today, Danilo Medina from the PLD would win with 49.6% of the votes compared to 41.6% for Hipolito Mejia of the PRD. When it came to the economy, 54.3% of the voters thought that Medina would ensure better economic stability for the country compared to 41.5% for Mejia.
The research was carried out across the country from February 6 to 10 amongst 1,200 eligible voters and the results were presented at the Holiday Inn at a press conference earlier this week, as reported in El Dia.
Jose Luis Rojo, president of Insight, said that according to the research, 39.7% of the population approved of Leonel Fernandez's presidency, while 44.6% disapproved.
The five main problems concerning people were unemployment, crime, education, the economic crisis and corruption.
