With the objective of improving investigative capacity to prevent the trade in people and juvenile sex tourism in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, representatives of the police, Public Prosecutors office, Tourist police (Politur) and other international organizations participated in a training conference last week given by the American Department of National Security Investigation (HSI).
The conference "Trade in People, Forced Child Labor and Juvenile Sex Tourism" took place from 7-10 February in the Hotel Paradisus Punta Cana, with speakers from NGOs, and representatives from the governments of Haiti, United States and the Dominican Republic, according to a report in Hoy newspaper.
The aim was to enable Dominican police officers to improve their knowledge about identifying those involved, and to arrest offenders and help the victims.
