The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) announced the arrest of three Canadian women due to fly to Toronto from Punta Cana International Airport yesterday, Tuesday February 14. They were carrying over 18 kilos of suspected cocaine attached to their bodies in 1,382 capsules.
They were identified as Daniela Maria Pea Ruggiero and Carla Lopes, both 29, and Violeta Teresa Pluas, aged 38. The three women have made several journeys to the country this year.
Several Dominicans were also arrested in Veron, suspected of involvement in the same network, and of providing the drugs.
They are Luis Eduardo Lopez Echavarria, 29, sisters Deyanira Castillo Jimenez, known as Yani, aged 32, and Yomary Altagracia Castillo Jimenez, 25, as well as Ayergeni Reynoso Rodriguez, known as Yeni, who took the Canadians to the departure terminal at the airport.
