According to El Nacional, in the first 45 days of this year, 100 Dominicans who have served their sentences in the United States for drug trafficking have been repatriated, 18 of whom spent eight to 12 years in jail, 42 spent four to eight years and the other 40 between two and four years. In the same time period, another 90 Dominicans have returned, having completed sentences for murder, forgery, fraud, kidnap, rape, arson and other offenses.

Comparing the numbers with the same time period last year, the statistics show an increase and another group of 107 Dominicans who have completed their sentences in the US are expected next Wednesday.

Last year, 4,198 Dominicans were repatriated from the US of whom 60% had been accused of drug trafficking. The US authorities confiscates goods and property worth millions of dollars from them, as happens here.
