The late Freddy Mateo Lebron can now be laid to rest after the management of Plaza de la Salud hospital finally handed over his body to his family, who owed them RD$2.5 million.

Mateo Lebron, who worked as a baker, had spent more than four months in intensive care following a traffic accident and the bill was RD$3.5 million of which insurance paid a million. His family and the hospital reached an agreement whereby the hospital agreed to cancel the debt.

Mateo Lebron died last Tuesday and his body was released yesterday afternoon to the Blandino funeral home to be taken for burial in the Cristo Salvador cemetery.

His family was accompanied by their lawyer Altagracia Jimenez, who confirmed that it was illegal not to release the body.

Dashira Martinez, Head of Communications at Plaza de la Salud, said that they had never mentioned not releasing the body but that they were waiting for the document to be signed where the family acknowledged the outstanding debt for audit purposes. She confirmed that the debt would then be written off, as had happened in other cases.

Mateo Lebron, 38, had been hospitalized since his motorcycle was hit by a car last November. He leaves a widow and five children.
