The Ministry of Education has a RD$120 million budget for repairing and remodeling 39 of the 114 school buildings that suffered damage including cracks in the earthquakes that shook parts of the country in January. According to El Nuevo Diario, Minister of Education Josefina Pimentel said that she has requested the National Office of Infrastructure Supervisors to conduct surveys of the school buildings. Pimentel said that work has already started on repairing the buildings that suffered the greatest damage, including the Emma Balaguer School in the Katanga area of Navarrete.
