According to the US television channel in Spanish Univision, the US State Department has revoked visas from four people who work closely with President Leonel Fernandez.

The people involved are Victor Crispin Zorrilla, personal assistant to Fernandez and sub director of the National Investigations Department (DNI), General Hector Medina Medina, head of the Presidential security detail, the former head of the Armed Forces and the DNI, Manuel de Jesus Florentino Florentino and the former chief of Police and political adviser to the President, General Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin.

Univision's research department head Gerardo Reyes said that they have been trying to obtain reactions from those involved but have had no response to date. He stressed that there was no political agenda behind these revelations.

Hoy newspaper tried to obtain a statement from the US embassy in Santo Domingo but press attache Judith Ravin would only say that she could not provide information about individual cases to third parties due to the confidentiality involved with visas. She did say that the State Department has the right to revoke visas, which would happen if they received information indicating that the visa holder would not be admitted into the US, or would be ineligible for a visa if they applied now.
