The 20 May presidential elections will cost almost RD$2 billion, due to the fact that as well as electing the President and Vice President, seven overseas deputies will also be elected.

El Dia reports that this sum includes the electoral budget for the Central Electoral Board (JCE), which will cover the costs of the process and pay for the staff and materials, including 7,327,050 ballot papers for the country and 368,925 ballot papers for overseas.

In addition, the budget will pay for food and transport for the 45,000 Electoral Military Police and accommodation and expenses for the overseas electoral observers.

More than 70,000 people will be working in 13,865 voting stations in the country and 695 overseas. The budget will cover their salaries, food and transport. It will also pay for all the equipment needed at the voting stations including ballot boxes, cases, and security seals for the cases.

In addition there are the costs of promotion and publicity for the overseas votes and the costs of scanning and transmitting machines that will be installed in more than 1,200 of the voting stations, plus the cost of renting vehicles to transport the scanners.
