The publication of a Univision report indicating that the United States had rescinded the visas of President Leonel Fernandez's civilian bodyguard Victor Crispin, military aides commander Hector Belisario Medina Medina, presidential Police affairs advisor Guillermo Guzman Fermin and Frontier Development Director Manuel de Jesus Florentino Florentino has reverberated in the country, as it was picked up by print and digital media.

Up until now the government has not issued an official statement in response, but some officials questioned claimed no knowledge of the case.

Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said that he was only just finding out about the issue. Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena and the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development said that they did not know that the United States had withdrawn the visas of four of the President's closest aides. Nonetheless, Montas said that the news would not affect the government's image or foreign investments. Yesterday Crispin and Medina Medina were carrying out their functions as usual, accompanying the President at the re-inauguration of the San Lorenzo Hospital in Los Mina, but they did not give reporters a chance to ask questions.

Commenting on this issue, the United States embassy issued a press statement saying that "the Department of State has full authority to revoke visas." And that due to "the confidentiality of the visas case files (....) generally we cannot provide information regarding individual cases, except to the visa holder."
