Now in its 10th year, the Master of the Ocean returns to Cabarete Beach on the north coast. The event is the world's most complete watersports competition in four categories. This year a new class of elite and multi-sport waterman/woman has been created.
The Master of the Ocean was conceived to challenge the most skilled surfers, windsurfers, kitesurfers and subsurfers with five days of extreme water skills. There is around RD$3 million in prize money. The event is sponsored by Cabarete businesses with the backing of the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Sports.
It was originally conceived as the "Iron Man of Water Sports", by German waterman Marcus Bohm, and today continues to run strong in popularity with top-notch sportsmen and women from around the world. See http://masteroftheocean.com/master-ocean-2012
The event opens today Thursday February 23 and continues until Sunday February 27.
