Cigar Aficionado magazine reports on the fifth annual ProCigar Festival under way in the Dominican Republic, described as the world's leading producer of premium cigars.
The weeklong event began in La Romana on Sunday February 19, with a golf tournament and a tour of Tabacalera de Garcia, the factory where Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo cigars are made. The party then moved on to Santiago, the capital of Dominican cigar making.
Guests are taking tours of the new Matasa factory (makers of Quesada cigars), La Aurora S.A., (Aurora, Guillermo Leon), General Cigar Dominicana (where Macanudo, Partagas and La Gloria Cubanas are made) and Cigars Davidoff (home to the Davidoff brand). There will also be tours of General Cigar and Davidoff tobacco fields, and a series of other activities including a charity auction.
