General Rafael Guzman Fermin, former police chief and current police advisor to President Leonel Fernandez, and General Victor Manuel Crispin Zorilla, who works as a body guard to President Fernandez and is deputy director of the National Investigations Department, traveled to Miami to meet with Univision reporter Gerardo Reyes and personally challenge the claims by Reyes that their visas to travel to the United States had been cancelled.
Last week, Univision reported that the two along with President Leonel Fernandez's top military advisor Hector Medina Medina and border security chief General Manuel de Jesus Florentino Florentino and former director of the National Department of Investigations (DNI) had lost their travel visas under the rule that allows the government to target officials suspected of corruption, as a US government official confirmed to the Miami Herald. During the visit to Florida, Guzman Fermin gave interviews to CNN and the Miami Herald.
Guzman was at Florida International University to participate in a presentation about an anti-crime program he developed with Professor Eduardo Gamarra, who has advised the Fernandez administration on fighting crime.
Major Generals Hector Bienvenido Medina Medina and Manuel de Jesus Florentino Florentino have not denied the story on their visa cancellation.
