A US citizen is in jail and awaiting extradition from the Dominican Republic for allegedly defrauding his mother-in-law of more than US$100,000 in 2008, according to media reports and court documents.
Agents arrested Kenneth Dale Thomason, 52, in Santiago. Thomason had traveled to the DR after being tipped off by his wife two months before fraud charges were brought by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office in May 2008, according to Lawrence County court records.
In March 2008, Kimberly Thomason, 48, told her husband that a grand jury investigation was under way and that aggravated grand theft charges would be brought against him, a fact she learned from her mother, court documents show.
Lawrence County State's Attorney John Fitzgerald said he could only confirm the alleged fraud involved a land deal that accounted for more than a US$100,000 loss by Kenneth Thomason's mother-in-law. He refrained from giving more details.
