The Superintendent of Electricity (SIE) has fined the San Felipe generation plant in Puerto Plata more than RD$12 million pesos for violating the General Electricity Law and its regulations. According to press reports, the San Felipe generator did not heed the instructions of the Coordinator of the National Interconnected Electricity System and the Energy Control Center, which had asked them to lower their output to the Technical Minimum as defined by the SIE in resolution SIE-132-2011. Apparently the output by the San Felipe generator forced the SIE to reduce output by other, less expensive, generators. The SIE decision mentions "cost overruns worth millions of pesos..."
