Youth leader Marcos Diaz, known for his marathon open water swims around the world, including the English Channel, has announced he will be campaigning for PLD presidential candidate Danilo Medina.
Marcos Diaz is one of the highest-profile young Dominicans. In recognition, he was named Diario Libre's Man of the Year in 2007.
As reported in Hoy, Marcos Diaz called on Dominican youth to back Medina because he is the guarantee of the continuation of a progressive government. Diaz said that Medina represents the country's best interests and that in the world of aggressive politics, the candidate of the PLD is a champion. Medina returned the compliments calling Diaz "a banquet in political matters" and promised that he would not let down anyone who had put their trust in him.
In 2010, Marcos Diaz made a swim around the world to promote the United Nations Millennium Goals with the support of the Office of the First Lady, Margarita Cedeno, vice presidential candidate on the Medina ticket. In his Swim Across the Continents he linked Europe to the American continent to promote the importance of meeting the Millennium Development Goals in every nation in the world.
