"Money talks and the rest walk" is an old political adage that seems to be evident in the current Dominican political arena. Citizen Participation, a civil society watchdog group, has given a glimpse at spending in today's Hoy newspaper. Total political spending shows that the ruling PLD is spending 3.5 times what the opposition PRD is spending, with 70% being spent by the PLD and just 20% by the PRD. Total expenditures in January were over RD$58 million according to the group of observers. The PLD spent RD$41 million and the PRD spent RD$11.9 million. Citizen Participation said that they regretted the fact that the country was going into yet another election without a law that controls the election campaign process. The document is stagnated in the PLD-majority Congress.
